Tallmadge administrators halt all athletics

Superintendent Jeff Ferguson announced Nov. 24 that all Tallmadge winter sports, practices and contests will be “paused” for the next two weeks. Practices are set to resume Dec. 7 with games or contests beginning Dec. 14 unless further restrictions are implemented.

“This was not an easy decision to make, but we feel that it is in the best interest of our student body, staff and community to temporarily pause our athletic programs as we move into early December,” Ferguson said.  The announcement came through an all-call at 5 p.m. with an additional letter emailed to current athletes following the call.

This news comes after both the boys and girls basketball teams were shut down due to positive COVID-19 cases and exposure to the virus, respectively.

OHSAA has announced restrictions on spectators at all Ohio sporting contests. Only parents of athletes will be able to attend any game until Dec. 31. Tallmadge Athletics still plans on continuing their no spectators rule. These restrictions will be enforced at any away game until next year.

More information on both of these are set to come in the coming weeks.
